MAKING A DIFFERENCE

I was leaving Bloneez's Beauty Salon after dropping off my wife, and I saw a unique orange colored Volkswagen with a leaves rake in the back seat. The care had a personality all of its own. I had to take its picture, so, as I was taking the picture, the owner, Bill Culhane, walked out. I got much more than what I bargained for; as he and I talked, I learned that he too had his own unique personality. Seems that he was heading to do some volunteer yard work for some friends. As he and I talked, I learned he is a retired Naval Captain doing a lot of volunteer work for our mentally challenged citizens. For example, he is on the Board of Directors for a nonprofit organization called Upper Pinellas Association for Retarded Citizens (UPARC). He is also president for another nonprofit organization called Advocare Trust, Inc. whose mission is taking care of adult special needs children when their parents are no longer able to do so because of age, death, etc. Being a parent of two children who have special needs children they are raising, this is a big concern which his organization is addressing, “Who will take care of my son or daughter when I am gone?" This morning at Mass I heard the priest ask, "Have we done the right thing because the right thing is what needs to be done"! Well, it seems to me that Bill Culhane certainly is. He is a stellar example for all of us to emulate. He is a walking example of a principled centered person/leader I talk about in my book "Our Road to World Peace". He certainly is making a difference!
